From the Cutting Board to the Cloud: Cogntix's Journey with Recipe Lab
Recipe Lab wanted a digital companion for chefs. We built a platform that lets them focus on food, not paperwork.
What makes a chef's life so challenging? The endless administrative tasks that pull them away from their craft. When Recipe Lab — a France-based platform — came to Cogntix, they weren't looking for another app. They wanted a transformative tool that would simplify chefs' lives so they could focus on their passion for food.
1. The challenges: too many roles, not enough time
Chefs juggle recipe books, ingredient lists, and supplier information — often adapting portions and dietary requirements on the fly.
The core question: how do you build a tool that respects a chef's workflow instead of adding to it?
2. A platform built around chefs' needs
We designed Recipe Lab around real kitchen workflows: recipe versioning, live portion scaling, allergen tracking, and supplier-linked cost calculations.
Everything is one or two taps away — because chefs don't have time to hunt through menus.
3. Ingredient, supplier & cost management
Recipes are linked to live supplier data, so cost-per-portion updates automatically when ingredient prices change.
Chefs finally have real numbers for menu decisions instead of gut estimates.
4. Training the next generation
New team members can learn a recipe end-to-end from the app — with visuals, timings, and technique notes — cutting training time significantly.
5. What we learned
Great vertical software isn't about features — it's about deeply understanding the craft. Recipe Lab works because it was designed with chefs, not just for them.
